Do Places Whisper To You?

I rarely go to London.

I like it. I hate it. I'm inspired by it. I'm intimidated by it. But mostly, I love to feel it.

There's something about just walking around.

Coffee in hand. Head swivelling like an owl who's just spotted gossip.

If you didn't know, I live in the countryside just outside Bristol.

It's slow here. Quiet. Calm.

It whispers to me: Gentleness. Stillness. Beauty. Space.

And maybe that's what I love so much,

The contrast.

Every city whispers something in your ear.

Not with words, but with energy.

When I explore a new place, I try to listen. I tune in.

Last week, I was sitting in a little cafe in Marylebone, first coffee of the day, eavesdropping (with love).

A woman at the next table was talking about a book that, in her words, "completely turned her life around."

I waited for the title like she was about to reveal the WiFi password.

She said: "Ask and It Is Given" by Esther Hicks.

I ordered it straight away on my phone.

Later that day, walking through Soho, I kept hearing the same song: "Respect Yourself."

In a passing car.

From a restaurant speaker.

In a store.

You can roll your eyes, but to me, it felt like a message.

A gentle nudge from the city: Be kinder to yourself. Respect where you're at. Give yourself some credit.

Then I turned a corner and saw an unusually big sign that just said: "LOOK UP."

Again, it connected.

Recently, I've felt a little down. A little lost.

Birthdays do that to me — that weird blend of reflection, pressure, and "shouldn't I be further by now?" kind of thinking.

But that woman's book recommendation at the café…That song. That sign.

They felt stitched together.

Not in a spooky way — just in a pay-attention-to-this kind of way.

Wherever you go, you tune into what you're already carrying.

Someone else could've walked the exact same streets as me that day and experienced none of that.

No signs. No songs. No revelations.

So maybe we don't just experience places.

Maybe we project onto them.

We move through the world like mirrors.

Reflecting what's inside, receiving what we're ready for.

The places we pass through? They speak. Not always loudly. Not always clearly. But softly — if you're listening closely enough.

Have a great week ahead,
Kia kaha & love Chris Xx
