Read time: 3 min

We love ashwangandha

But sadly you will not see it in any of our products.

At No Ordinary Moments, we create a range of drinks that help you live in the present and help you perform better at the hobbies you love the most.

Our products are meant for everyday use, which is why we do not include ashwagandha in any of them.

In this blog post, I will explain why..

Ashwagandha, a popular adaptogenic herb known for its potential stress-reducing and rejuvenating properties, has gained significant attention in the world of natural supplements.

While it offers various health benefits, it's crucial to understand that cycling Ashwagandha and not taking it every day may be the most beneficial approach.

Understanding Ashwagandha's Mechanism of Action:

Ashwagandha, scientifically known as Withania somnifera, is an ancient medicinal herb originating from Ayurveda, the traditional healing system of India.

It is renowned for its adaptogenic properties, meaning it can help the body adapt to stressors and promote overall well-being.

Ashwagandha's active compounds, such as withanolides, alkaloids, and steroidal lactones, play a vital role in its therapeutic effects.

Reasons to Cycle Ashwagandha:

  1. Maintaining Sensitivity and Efficacy: Regular and prolonged use of any substance, including herbal supplements like Ashwagandha, can lead to reduced sensitivity over time. By cycling Ashwagandha, you allow your body to maintain its sensitivity to the herb, ensuring that you can continue to reap its benefits. Periodic breaks prevent your body from becoming desensitized, thereby preserving the herb's effectiveness when you do use it.

  2. Avoiding Potential Tolerance and Dependency: Using Ashwagandha daily for an extended period may lead to the development of tolerance, where your body becomes less responsive to its effects. Moreover, continuous daily use may also result in dependency, wherein your body becomes reliant on the herb for normal functioning. By cycling Ashwagandha, you minimize the risk of tolerance and dependency, promoting a healthier and more sustainable relationship with the herb.

How to Cycle Ashwagandha:

Cycling Ashwagandha involves alternating periods of usage and breaks. The specific cycling schedule may vary depending on individual needs and circumstances, but a general approach is as follows:

  1. Usage Phase: Take Ashwagandha for a designated period, typically ranging from 4 to 8 weeks. During this phase, closely monitor how your body responds to the herb and assess the benefits you experience.

  2. Break Phase: After the usage phase, take a break from Ashwagandha for an equal or slightly longer duration than the usage phase. This break allows your body to reset and maintain its sensitivity to the herb, avoiding potential tolerance and dependency.

  3. Repeat: After the break phase, you can resume the usage phase if desired, following the same pattern of cycling to ensure optimal effectiveness and long-term benefits.

It's important to note that the specific duration of each phase may vary based on individual factors, such as health condition, desired effects, and guidance from a healthcare professional.

Consultation with a Healthcare Professional: As with any dietary supplement or herbal remedy, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before starting or modifying your Ashwagandha cycling routine. They can provide personalized guidance based on your specific needs, health status, and any potential interactions with medications or existing health conditions.

How I take Ashwangandha

Every 3 months I will buy a 60 day supply in pill format, around 400mg.

I will take right before I go to bed with some of my other supplements.

After that bottle is gone, I will not order again for 3 months.

So if you find a coffee, drink or protein based supplement that you love using everyday with ashwangandha in it, I would keeping it as your regular go to.

For maximum benefits I would take ashwangandha separately and incorporate  into your diet that way.

Conclusion:

Cycling Ashwagandha by incorporating periodic breaks into your usage routine is a prudent approach to maximize its benefits while minimizing the risks of tolerance and dependency.

By maintaining sensitivity and avoiding long-term daily use, you can continue to experience the adaptogenic effects of Ashwagandha in a more sustainable and effective manner. Remember to consult with a healthcare.
