I Saw the Angel in the Marble

One of my favourite quotes comes from Michelangelo. He said:

"I saw the angel in the marble, and carved until I set him free."

And I think about that line often.

Because it’s not just about art. It’s about us.

It’s about what we carry inside. The version of ourselves we know is in there—under the doubt, under the fear, under the habits we want to break and the stories we didn’t write but keep repeating.

There’s something beautiful inside you.

Something worthy.

Something waiting.

But you have to carve.

The Work of Becoming

We talk a lot about growth—how we want to be more patient, more focused, more present, more kind.

But growth doesn’t mean adding more on. It means revealing what’s already there.

It means chiselling away the noise. The layers. The expectations. The excuses.

The angel isn’t something you build from scratch. It’s already in the stone. It’s you.

The only way to find it is to pick up the chisel.

The Chisel Hurts Sometimes

Carving is uncomfortable.

It means facing your distractions.

It means noticing your patterns.

It means staying with the uncomfortable feelings.

Showing up on the days you’d rather hide.

Making decisions that look small to others but feel monumental to you.

It means saying:

I won’t run from this.
I won’t numb this.
I’ll stay. I’ll feel. I’ll chip away.

Not all at once. Not overnight. But little by little, day by day.

Until the outline of who you really are starts to show through.

Progress Isn’t Always Loud

We live in a world that celebrates the end result. The dramatic transformation, the 'before and after' photo.

But what about the slow, silent act of carving? What about the thousand uncelebrated choices it takes to get there?

Waking up early when no one’s watching. Apologising when it would be easier not to. Turning your phone off and actually listening.

That’s carving. That’s the real work.

And that’s where freedom lives.

The Angel Is Already In You

If you’ve been feeling stuck recently, like you haven’t done enough, like you should be further ahead, pause.

You’re not starting from nothing. You are already the block of marble.

And deep inside is something extraordinary—something whole, and powerful, and unshakably true.

You just have to keep chiselling.

One choice at a time. One act of courage. One honest moment.

Hard Choices, Easy Life. Easy Choices, Hard Life.

Don’t give up. Don’t walk away. And don’t forget:

The masterpiece is already inside you.

You’re not building it. You’re uncovering it.

Have a great week ahead.
